PREVIOUS PROJECTS

MOVIE CHARACTER.
For one of our first projects in Fashion Styling, we were assigned to choose a character from a movie that we enjoyed and knew a lot about.  I chose Margaret Tate from The Proposal.  Now, for those of you who haven't seen the movie, I'll give you a little background.  For three years, Andrew Paxton, who is played by Ryan Reynolds, has been the assistant to Margaret Tate, played by the gorgeous Sandra Bullock, who is a hard-driving executive editor in chief at a New York publishing company. When Margaret, a Canadian, faces deportation for an expired visa, she devises a scheme to marry Andrew and he agrees if she'll promise a promotion.  disbelieving INS agent plans to test the couple about their knowledge on the following Monday, and Margaret plans to spend the entire weekend getting to know one another.  However, Andrew had alternate plans to fly home that weekend for his grandma's 90th, so Margaret goes with him to Sitka, Alaska – Andrew’s home town.  His mom, dad, and family await the “happy couple” but family dynamics take over: tensions between Andrew and his father, an ex-girlfriend, Andrew's dislike of Margaret, and her past make the next few days a nightmare, with the INS ready to charge Andrew with fraud until they realize they are truly in love and decide to get engaged, for real this time.  Part of our assignment was to choose three specific scenes from the film and style the character specifically within those scenes.  I chose to style Maragret for a day in the office, since her career was such a large part of this movie, her flight to Alaska, since the majority of the movie took place there, and lastly, I chose her day out with the girls, which turned into her bachelorette party at a local bar.  Margaret's style could be described as conservative, polished, classic and sophisticated.  I wanted to keep her style similar to her character in the film, but also add a little edge.  Because she was an exectuive editor in chief, she was pretty wealthy, so I had a lot of fun not having a budget and being able to style her in anything I thought she would love and look amazing in! All looks are below.

                                                                      STYLING A PEER.
Another project that I really enjoyed doing was styling a peer in our class.  The peer I was styling was the only man in the class, and I've known him since freshman year of college. I have known his style for a while, but I loved being able to combine knowing what he likes, what look he was going for and adding in my personal taste and expertise. He is a really laid back guy, but is still really fashionable.  The look he was going for was "mainly classic", and knowing him, he loved layers.  I chose to put him in a lot of layered pieces that can be worn separately or all together.  Also, I loved the versatility between each outfit.  I pulled looks from Sarar, Express, Nordstrom, Banana Republic, J.Crew, Louis Vuitton & Brooks Brothers.  I chose to do suiting/formal looks and casual/every day looks.  Alex really enjoyed the outfits I chose for him, and what's most important is that the client's happy & loves the looks that you, the stylist, chose.
